about
First written when Alicia was 16 years old this song is a plea to the parents of teens with depression. Often times the reaction to self-harming and other signs of depression is to tighten up "security"; to ground the child, take away their computer, their cell phone, cut them off from the outside world. The song was written for a friend to remind her that life goes on, and there is a whole network of support out there, but also to the parents to urge them to find these support systems as well.
lyrics
Rosa, Rosa don’t get the gun, he said
Rosa, Rosa life’s too long to stay young, he said
Rosa, Rosa, don’t get the gun
Then in the dead of night, tip-toe down the hall
Why were they sleeping? Why didn’t they hear her fall?
Now she’s in a bright room, who was the one to make the call?
Who was the one to make the call?
Rosa, Rosa don’t get the gun
Scissors in the drawer too, She knows life’s unfair
Locked up by her mother, who taught her how to care
Now she’s in a white room, who was the one to lock her there?
Who was the one to lock her there?
Rosa, Rosa don’t get the gun
Why’d they sit her by the window and
Give her a vacant stare
Walk her up and down the corridor, but her mind’s not there
Twenty feet of rope down and below the water’s deep
Have you seen her mother, she’s walking half asleep
What good is dreaming? The papers are signed but the bill’s not cheap
The papers are signed but the bill’s not cheap
Rosa, Rosa don’t get the gun, he said
Rosa, Rosa life’s too long to stay young, he said
Rosa, Rosa, don’t get the gun
Don’t get the gun
Don’t get the gun

Thanks for the beautiful music Karine and Dave. it's been a while since I've felt so emotional listening to a new album. Every lyric is so beautifully supported by the piano parts. Laura-Beth Salter
